Computers for the home
SECTION: IN BUSINESS THIS WEEK; Companies; Pg. 44
LENGTH: 120 words
Texas Instruments Inc. decided on May 29 to introduce one of its home computers
after all, just days after it had elected to hold off until it got permission from
the Federal Communications Commission to hook up the system to a home TV.But it was
not the low-end 99/3 model that will retail for around $500, but the more powerful
99/4 that will sell for $1,150, complete with its own color monitor. Although most
home computers are being sold now to businessmen and educators, rather than for home
use, TI figures that its new line, due this fall, will open up the home market
because the machines are the first that are easy enough for the average person to
use.
